An Essential Spotlight: Finding the Helpers – Joe Carcia

Can you describe your job/role in the community?
  • My job is working at Giant Eagle in Mt. Lebanon. Usually in the bakey, but as of right now I am cleaning to keep people from getting sick. In the bakery I cut muffins, pies, and cookies. I miss the bakery. I work 9-14 now, but I also used to be a stock clerk. When I was a clerk I worked from 12-8:30pm, and I put away mostly milk and eggs. I still love visiting my friends there.
What has been your experience working during this time?
  • It’s definitely busy. Everyone has to wear a mask, and I do too. I also wear gloves while I am sanitizing areas. Outside of work I have been staying at home and going for walks, and it’s nice to get some fresh air once in a while.
What about your job feels empowering/positive?
  • I like saying hi to the people I know coming into the store, it feels like a ghost town outside so it is nice to see other people. I also am pretty good at washing dishes and I like doing things I am good at, so that has been positive for me.
Anything else you would like to share?
  • Being with my coworkers has been good for me because they are good friends of mine, but I can’t wait to go back to FC and see everyone! I hope everyone is doing well.
