Teen Leadership Shabbaton

Our teens enjoyed a weekend of connection, learning and fun for Teen Leadership Shabbaton last weekend. On Friday, they participated in a Training Tracks discussion about ableism with guest speakers Joey Murphy, Regina Sciullo, and Nick Sciullo, followed by a lovely Shabbat dinner and some games. On Sunday, as part of a Teen Workshop, we heard from teens at other Friendship Circle affiliates in Toledo, OH, Phoenix, AZ, and Los Angeles, CA! Our Pittsburgh FC teens represented us well by asking them thoughtful questions; it was so interesting to hear about the differences and similarities between their experiences and our own! Also sharing their thoughts were FC alumni and Teen Leadership Board members. Finally, after a nice brunch at FC, we enjoyed rock climbing with some younger members at ASCEND Point Breeze. Thanks to everyone for their engagement!

Art Club

Our last session of Art Club for the year was filled with tons of gift giving where members made and traded Diamond Gem sticker crafts and bookmarks. We also chose from some pre-drawn canvases to make oil pastel creations on. Members loved using paint pens to create little trinket dishes to hold their jewelry and game pieces! We have all loved getting creative together and exploring different art mediums throughout the year. Can’t wait to do more art together next year!

It’s a wild ride (mind all the puns) marked by leads of corruption in this newly created world that needs to undergo a “cleansing,” or mass tragic flood that wipes out most of the population… Read More

Same but Different

TwitterFacebookLinkedinPrintemailA WEEKLY TORAH THOUGHT BY RABBI MORDY And so it begins. We concluded the Torah on Simchat Torah, this past Wednesday, with joy and singing and dancing, only to immediately turn around and begin again. The same but different cycle to be sure, the beauty found in seeking new meaning in the Parsha—we are have all changed from our internal… Read More

Get Happy! (Seriously!)

TwitterFacebookLinkedinPrintemailA WEEKLY TORAH THOUGHT BY RABBI MORDY This week, as mentioned last week, we don’t technically read a specific Parsha. We read a special reading from the Torah associated with Sukkot; on Wednesday, Simchat Torah, we will actually read the final portion (V’zot habracha). So I’m going to share a brief thought on Sukkot in that spirit. Sukkot is seriously… Read More
